Overview

The School of Dance Studies is a eight month training program designed to provide students with intense dance training and study in order to reach the world by upholding God's truth and maintaining artistic integrity. Emphasis will be placed on excellence in technical training as well as academic course work related to dance and missions. This will enhance the dancers by giving them a well-rounded training base. The school includes practical ministry and performance opportunities throughout the lecture phase and concludes with a two-month outreach.

Lecture Phase
School of Dance Studies is modeled after a college-level dance course and is therefore highly intensive academically, phisically, and spiritually.

Modern, Ballet and Jazz Technique
Dance Composition
Anatomy
Dance History
Nutrition
Dance in Worship
Dance in Missions
Music for Dancers
Pedagogy

Students will have the opportunity to learn choreography from several guest artists as well as the faculty. Morning worship and prayer, along with weekly lectures, are an integral part of the school.

Outreach Phase
Eight weeks spent overseas sharing dance and God's love with the world.

Cost

* $7350 USD – Includes room and board in Lakeside as well as outreach airfare and ground fees (food, housing, and transportation).

 


INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:
Applications for Canadian citizens should be completed no later than 1 month prior to the start of the school. For all other international applicants, completed applications should be received 4 months prior to the start of the school (Africans at least 6 months.) You must have a passport that is still valid up to six months after completion of the school. Each family member coming must have their own passport, including each child.

 

Prerequisites
Completion of the Discipleship Training School and Field Assignment (DSP 211,212 ) or Crossroads Discipleship Training School (IDS 703/704).
Applicants must have some previous dance experience.

A recorded audition including the following things must be submitted with your SODS application:
Brief introduction of yourself (who you are, pieces you will be performing, style of dance, order in which they appear, and the choreographer).
BALLET –
Ballet Barre: Plié, Tendu, Rond de Jambe, Adagio, Grand Battement
Center Work: Adagio, Jumps
Accross the floor: Jumps and Turn Combination
MODERN DANCE
Floor work: exercise
Plié, Foot work, Swings, Modern dance combination with swings, jumps, and turns.
JAZZ
Different exercises showing body isolations and coordination.

(You may include one optional piece of your choice including improvisation, hip hop, dance in worship, salsa, tap, and etcetera.
If you are performing in a group piece, please indicate which dancer you are before the piece begins.

Accreditation
Twenty-four (24) to Thirty-Six (36) semester equivalent credits will be earned upon successful completion of the School of Dance Studies Lecture Phase (CTA 321/322) and Field Assignment (CTA 324 or 529). These credits may be applied to a U of N degree program or transferred to other participating colleges or universities.
