teaching english to speakers of other languages (TESOL)

frequently asked questions

QUESTION: Can I teach anywhere with the certification you offer?

ANSWER: While a TESOL cettificate will open doors almost anywhere, some areas are more open than others. In most Asian countries you can work from elementary school to the university level. You will not find the same opportunities in Western Europe or the United States. If you want to work in school systems in these areas you will probably need advanced degrees. If, however, you are looking for ministry opportunities there are literally thousands of jobs around the world for a TESOL certificate holder.

QUESTION:Do people come to Christ through teaching English?

ANSWER: God is using English in powerful ways to reach into lives we normally would not have the opportunity to touch. Teaching English is one of the fastest ways to build relationships. We are amazed at how many internationals we meet that testify to coming to Christ through a loving English teacher.

QUESTION: I was lousy at Grammar, can I pass this course?

ANSWER: Not to worry. You don't have to know grammar when you come. You will leave knowing enough to get you started.

QUESTION: Will there be an outreach?

ANSWER: At this point we do not offer an out-of-country outreach or field assignment. We do a practicum during the month long course that lasts for 2 weeks. We travel into a neighboring city and teach English to internationals who have moved into the area. As many as ten different countries have been represented at our ESL schools.
