Overview
The SOW is a secondary school in the University of the Nations and is comprised of two distinct phases: a 4 month lecture phase followed by a 2-month outreach.
The purpose of the school is multi-faceted. For each of our students we seek to:
- continue to develop the necessary skills required to be an effective worship leader
- journey to discover and cultivate natural and unique gifting and abilities through a variety of ways including weekly workshops offered to develop individual musical skill
- nurture personal life skills
- encourage an intimate, obedient, growing relationship with God
Finally, we take what we have learned and apply throughout the two month outreach;
How will we accomplish this?
The objective of SOW is to stir the heart and mind of the disciple to a response of loving God through a life of obedience. We do this through weekly foundational topics designed to explore the aspects and current issues facing the church today. The curriculum also includes reading and discussion on a number of books devoted to the topic of worship, team worship leading, musical skill-development workshops, maintenance of a weekly journal and nurturing of individual song-writing skills. The end result is to produce a confident worshiper who can teach and lead others in the biblical ways of worship, as well as help discover and develop the individual’s gifts.
Lecture Phase
During the four months lecture phase, we explore and discuss a wide variety of foundational topics relative to biblical worship of God. From lectures on leadership and team dynamics to heart issues and personal discovery this will be a great time of preparing for biblical worship ministry. Topics include:
- The heart of a worshiper
- Living a life of service
- Intimacy & prayer
- Ancient-Future worship
- Musicianship & songwriting
- God’s presence in worship
- Creative Arts in worship
- Navigating by the Spirit
- Leadership & team dynamics
- Taking worship to the Nations
Outreach
The two month outreach provides opportunities for students to lead corporate worship in settings beyond the classroom. Participants are actively involved in ministry, applying what has been taught during the lecture phase in the form of teams. The team participates in meeting the needs of the Local Church an broader community by helping develop and equip others for worship leadership and ministering to other perceived needs and areas of service.
