Frequently Asked Questions

Q: “Is DTS Equip Right For Me?”
A: DTS Equip is designed to be a full-time program that tailors to the core needs of leaders, whether they be experienced or emerging. Upon a core focus on character development we add practical skills. Before addressing some other frequently asked questions below, it’s important to realize the following: DTS Equip is a leadership development platform for individuals who are serious about discipleship and leadership. The standards and expectations for both participants and facilitators are high.

Q: Level of Experience required…?
A: The curriculum and speakers are adequately prepared to address both the experienced and the emerging leader alike. The dynamic created by the presence of a broad spectrum of experience within a classroom is one of mutually beneficial interaction and information transfer. The experienced leaders raise questions and issues that less-seasoned disciplers would not, while the less experienced leaders ask questions that many of us have forgotten are important! Additionally, the mutual modeling of teachability regardless of age or experience brings profound impact into everyone’s life. We want emerging and experienced, seasoned and fresh! We can all learn from each other.

Q: “What if I don’t work with DTS?”
A: While the program and curriculum assumes a primarily DTS-focused group, most of the curriculum can be applied to any individual who finds themselves discipling and leading, regardless of school or sphere. In addition to DTS program Directors, School leaders and staff, we have also had staff from the SBS, base leaders, and others who were intent on working in other non-YWAM discipleship ministries, and churches. Our intention is to offer quality training for anyone who desired it. The content of the program and caliber of speakers and staff mean that any individual can benefit. It is important however to understand that the majority of the conversation (and other classmates) revolve around the DTS context.

Q: “What if I’m married, and only one of us works in DTS?”
A: You have two choices. As mentioned already, DTS Equip offers a lot for any individual wishing to develop in discipleship and leadership skills, so you can both participate. Alternatively, you can complete the course yourself while your spouse serves on base as a Project Staff or Mission Builder (this is dependent upon the location running the DTS Equip and their availability of staff positions and/or other relevant policy).

Q: “What if I have kids?”
A: DTS Equip is full time, so in order to graduate the program and receive credit you must attend all class activities and complete all assignments. Your spouse or nanny can accompany you and care for your children, but not be a registered participant within the program. If your spouse wishes to enroll in DTS Equip also, you must provide your own nanny so you can both attend. (Fees for board and food apply to all persons in your party.)
