Speaker Bios

Darlene Cunningham
Darlene is the co-founder, with her husband Loren, of Youth With A Mission. Among her many roles over the years, Darlene holds an intense "ownership" of the DTS. She led the initiative to formulate YWAM's foundational values, as well as creating the International DTS Centre. Darlene is a "prime mover" in YWAM in the areas of facilitation of vision and leadership development. One of her greatest heart motivations is to discover leadership gifts in young men and women and help them to reach their full potential in God. Darlene directs one field-based Leadership Training School annually or biennially, held on location somewhere in the developing world. Darlene is eagerly sought as a speaker worldwide because she is recognized as a woman of faith and wisdom who hears from God. She is uniquely qualified and experienced to give leadership to those within Youth With A Mission because she understands the lifestyle, pressures and joys of the Mission from an inside perspective. Whatever the context, she constantly points the hearer to God's faithfulness and His great grace in every situation.

Loren Cunningham
Loren Cunningham is the Founder of Youth With A Mission (YWAM), which was created in 1960 and has since reached into every nation of the world. The work of YWAM encompasses evangelism, training and mercy ministries and is manned by nearly 20,000 full-time staff from more than 150 nationalities. More than four million students, short-term volunteers and staff have served with YWAM since its inception.

Loren is also one of three founders and the President of the University of the Nations (YWAM's global university), and the leader of the Kona Campus in Hawaii. Loren has personally gone to every sovereign nation on earth, all dependent countries, and more than 150 territories and islands. His wisdom, experience, and leadership understanding have caused him to be sought out by leaders of nations and organizations worldwide. He speaks publicly in 30 to 40 nations a year, and has spoken to live audiences from only a few people to more than a million gathered in one location.

Born in Taft, California, Loren’s family heritage is rich with generations of Christian ministers. His educational background includes three Bachelor degrees, a Master of Science in Administration of Education, and three Honorary Doctorates. Loren is the author of five books: Is That Really You, God? (translated into more than 100 languages) Making Jesus Lord, Daring to Live on the Edge, Why Not Women? and The Book that Transforms Nations—the Power of the Bible to Change any Country.

Jim Isom

Jim's work has been both within and outside of YWAM, primarily in the area of working with addicted individuals and their families, pioneering different rehab and counseling ministries that have influenced over 100,000 individuals in the Washington D.C. area alone. His rehab and counseling ministry spanned more than a decade before Pastoring in D.C. for 10 years after which he joined YWAM. Jim and his wife Judy came into YWAM in 1990, from 20 years of prior ministry. Their heart for DTS is to see the students from "difficult family backgrounds" come to freedom and fulfill God's creative design for them in Missions and in whatever expression God intends. Jim and Judy have been in YWAM for 17 years. Having worked in Amsterdam for 9 years with DTS and co-leading the Addictive Behavior Counseling School. Jim also served as a Pastoral advisor for staff and ministry to people in the city, while Judy worked with the prostitutes in the red light district. Jim also currently serves with Teen Challenge in different capacities, as well as teaching and counseling in various YWAM discipleship, counseling and leadership schools. He is CCDC (Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor) and has a M.A in Religion.

Ron & Judy Smith
Ron and Judy have been in the mission for over 30 years. They developed and pioneered the School of Biblical Studies and have been overseeing SBS International since. Their passion is to instill a love for the Word of God and a true daily application of the Bible into people's lives. They also live to champion and release young leaders, and have countless spiritual children. They both teach in SBS and DTS schools worldwide on such topics as relationships, Bible Study/meditation, history of Christianity and missions, finances and more. Ron is an avid reader who enjoys golfing and loitering at Borders. Judy is also a golfer and enjoys snowboarding, bicycling, and horseback riding.

Dawn Masucci
Dawn has been involved with YWAM since 1986. She lived in Hong Kong working with an evangelism ministry for four years and spent twelve years in Montana, where she worked within the SBS department, and took on the role of Programs Director for the last three years. She and her husband (Mark) left YWAM in 2004 to pursue further education and in 2007 Dawn graduated from Trinity Western University with a Masters in Leadership. Her final project was on Team Dynamics in a Cross-Cultural Organizations. Dawn and Mark have now returned to YWAM Montana where they work with SBS international and Leadership 13.

Gordy McDonald
Gordy and his wife, Renee, began their ministry as youth pastors shortly after being married in 1973. In 1979 they joined Youth With A Mission in Kona, Hawaii and have served in the training and equipping of missionaries in both Hawaii and Montana. In 1985 the McDonalds moved to Lakeside to direct the training programs of YWAM Montana and in 1989 they assumed the overall leadership of the ministry until November of 2002. Gordy served as the Northwest Director for Youth With A Mission having responsibilities for the other YWAM works in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Wyoming. In June of 2004 Gordy was invited to join the staff of Evergreen Community Church in Bothell, Washington and served there until June of 2007. Later that year the McDonalds rejoined YWAM and are now serving in Montana and at large in the area of leadership development. Gordy has also recently completed a Masters degree in Leadership.

Ron Brewster
Ron is an ordained minister, gifted leader, and teacher. Ron came into YWAM in 1987, and of his years in the mission, five have have been staffing and leading DTS's, including directing the DTS program here in Lakeside MT. Aside from three years as the Administrative and College and Career Pastor at a Foursquare church in Roseburg, Oregon, his ministry career has been largely dedicated to YWAM. In 2002 he became the Base Director in Montana. Ron has had the privilege of travelling to 45 countries, teaching and ministering, both as an individual and with his family. His teaching passions include: Embracing God's Call, Leadership, Team Dynamics, Conflict Resolution, and more. Ron and his family have made their home at YWAM Montana, and he is currently working in the global resources department.

Sarah Lanier
Sarah was born in Georgia, USA, and moved to the Middle East at the age of nine. Since 1980 she has worked with an international and interdenominational Christian Organization and it’s university system (UofN). Her expertise is in the field of leadership and personnel development. She worked interculturally for 11 years in the Netherlands, 10 years in Israel, and one year in Chile. She has also taught and lived in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and New Zealand and is conversant in five languages. Sarah currently travels internationally as a consultant and lecturer on culture, leadership and team dynamics. Sarah’s book “Foreign To Familiar” is a widely popular book on the topic of working cross-culturally.

Jeff & Kristy Wilke
Jeff and Kristy began in YWAM in 1992 aboard the Anastasis, where they served until 1994. In 1994 they moved to Lakeside, MT to work with DTS and together they have directed the DTS here for many years. They are members of the West Coast USA DTS Resource Team. Kristy also sits on the IDTSC. They have been working with DTS for over 13 years. Kristy is a gifted worship leader and both are great teachers, speaking on such topics as worship, relationships, intercession, outreach, small groups, and one-on-ones. Jeff and Kristy have four children. Prior to their YWAM experience, Jeff was a high school English teacher, and Kristy a bi-lingual aide in the public schools. Jeff has an English degree and teaching credential from California State Fullerton, and Kristy has a Bible and Christian Education degree from Hope International University where she is currently completing her MA in Christian Leadership. Jeff and Kristy love being on their boat and hosting people in their home.

Jeremy & Molly West
Jeremy joined YWAM in 1995. Aside from other personal training, he has worked with DTS since 1996. He directed the DTS program in Kona, HI from 2002-04. In 2005 he worked with Darlene and Loren after which he and Molly moved to Lakeside, MT in 2006. There he is responsible for DTS staff development and developing/running DTS Equip. Jeremy is a member of the International DTS Center (IDTSC) and the USA West Coast DTS Resource Team. Molly has also worked with DTS for over 10 years, and has a UofN degree in Biblical Studies. Both teach, subjects including discipleship, leadership, relinquishing rights, Bible study, missions, and conflict resolution. Jeremy & Molly have been married for 14 years. They have two young boys and a little girl. As well as montioningJeremy loves bow hunting and the outdoors. Spending time with their family is a passion Jeremy & Molly both share. Molly enjoys sleeping in, good coffee, long walks, and true involvement in others lives.

 

 


INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:
Applications for Canadian citizens should be completed no later than 1 month prior to the start of the school. For all other international applicants, completed applications should be received 4 months prior to the start of the school (Africans at least 6 months.) You must have a passport that is still valid up to six months after completion of the school. Each family member coming must have their own passport, including each child.

 

Prerequisites
Completion of the Discipleship Training School and Field Assignment (DSP 211,212 ) or Crossroads Discipleship Training School (IDS 703/704).

Accreditation Six (6) semester equivalent credits will be earned upon successful completion of DTS Equip (DSP 141). These credits may be applied to a U of N degree program or transferred to other participating colleges or universities.
